Bookmaker William Hill has started to take bets on how EastEnders character Peggy Mitchell will exit the BBC soap.
The betting firm is offering odds of 1/2 that the Mitchell matriarch will die in the Queen Vicfire. Actress Barbara Windsor announced her decision to depart the show earlier this year.
“Barbara Windsor has made it clear that she is leaving the show, but it will be interesting to see if anyone gets the elbow before her, with major clear-outs planned,” said William Hill’s spokesman Joe Crilly.
Meanwhile, Ben Mitchell (Charlie Jones) is now favourite to be the next character killed off on the serial, despite the BBC’s recent confirmation that the role will be recast.
